About Bruce Guterman:

Bruce began his journey on the path of Yoga in the early 1970's when he was initiated into "Transcendental Meditaion" (TM) as taught by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Along with this form of "mantra" meditation, Bruce began practicing some basic Yoga Asanas (poses) and combined this with his daily meditation practice.

Soon after, Bruce was drawn to a Yoga Master from India by the name of Acharya Vimalananda Avadhut (also known as Dadajii) - one of the founders of the Ananda Marga organization in the United States. From 1974-1977, Bruce studied and practiced Yoga in a Yoga Ashram with Dadajii, and other dedicated Yoga practitioners. After learning Dadajii's Yoga methods and techniques, known as "Raja" Yoga, Bruce began teaching Yoga in the San Francisco Bay Area, at the urging of his teacher. Bruce taught public classes, volunteer classes to prisoners at San Quentin State Prison, and volunteer classes to recovering addicts at San Francisco General Hospital.

In the 1980's, Bruce studied with another Yoga Master, Sant Keshavadas, founder of the Temple of Cosmic Religion. Sant Keshavadas is well known as a "Bhakti" Yogi, or a devotional Yogi. He's a Master of singing devotional chants, and storytelling of the Yoga scriptures and Yoga philosphy.

During the 1980's, and early 1990's, Bruce became certified as a Massage Therapist through the National Holistic institute, and studied Transpersonal Counseling Psychology at John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, California. Bruce obtained his Master's degree in Transpersonal Counseling from JFKU in 1991.

Another teacher that had a great influence on Bruce was Oleta Burger, who was a disciple of Indra Devi (one of the first female Yoga Master's to bring Yoga to the Western world). Oleta inspired Bruce to re-start his Yoga teaching career in 2001.

With all of his years of practicing and teaching Yoga, Bruce was not certified by any American Yoga school, so he decided to get certified to make it official. Bruce recently became certified as a Yoga teacher through Yogafit, which teaches a Vinyasa flow style of Yoga, and is registered through Yoga Alliance as an RYT. He also has obtained certifications in Pilates, Yoga Ball, Group Fitness, Cardio, Aerobics, and Cycling, through the YMCA.

Bruce currently teaches 12 Yoga classes and 4 Pilates classes per week (see schedule). He's available to teach Yoga workshops, private Yoga instruction, and is available for Counseling, & Massage.

Bruce has developed his own unique style of Yoga, which he appropriately calls "Full Body Yoga". As described above, his style is a blend of Hatha, Vinyasa, Kundalini, and Raja Yoga. This style is embodied in Bruce's classes, and in the Yoga Videos, DVDs and CDs that Bruce has created.

In Bruce's words: "When I teach Yoga, Pilates, or perform any other services in the world, it's my intention to serve the greater good, and to allow the flow of life force energy in me to nurture and heal the people around me. I believe the world can become a much better and peaceful place to live in, and I'm here to help make that happen by teaching people how to find their inner peace, fulfillment, and bliss."
